-Acorn Project-

To me, acorns of oak trees, are the most stylish of tree seeds. Being new to the country I held my first acorns when I was a teenager. Their appearance left a lasting impression on me. Since then this little seed has taken root in my heart.

What attracted me so to this little brown 'package' from nature? I was drawn to its colours to say the least. Their caps like a stylish hat, put on as if getting ready for an important encounter. Their shell smooth and shiny when buffed. The points at the end enticing a leaning posture; admitting a quiet defiance.

People, in many ways, are like acorns.

Depending on where oak trees are found, they bear seeds that are long and slender, while others robust and stubby. If you had ever been on an acorn-collecting excursion, you would agree it is near impossible to find a perfect acorn. Some forgot their fedoras as they fell. Others, squirrels had their luck for breakfast. But no matter how one comes into your hand, each shows markings that tell of its courage with nature seasons before. We should never be fooled by these imperfections. Behind their tale-telling armours, each seed has in them vital genetic potential for its species' very own survival.

If you held one close you could almost hear:

"Give me a chance and I'll show you!"

As a teenager, acorns have always held symbolic meaning to me. I truly believe, like acorns, we are equipped with everything we need; to be who we are meant to be; one pivotal moment away from becoming a big oak tree.
